A spatial design studio rooted in cultural identity, local craft, and the atmosphere of a place.

TIENO was founded by Atieno Onyango, born and raised in western Kenya, with an Italian design education and work across Florence, London, and Nairobi. Years embedded in Kenya's construction ecosystem — shoulder to shoulder with architects, contractors, and engineers — gave her a rare fluency: how a space is truly built, sourced, and lived in, not only how it looks. That grounding shapes everything TIENO makes, with East Africa remaining a core market. Along the way she identified a gap many clients quietly experience: the search for a design partner who works with precision and care, without pulling them into an exhausting cycle of meetings, revisions, and decisions — while still making the process feel personal and the result feel entirely their own.

Working with TIENO is designed to feel like the stillness of the night. Clients rest while the work happens. When they wake up, it's a new dawn ; a space that is precisely theirs, without the weight of having carried it there themselves. That stillness is not absence. It is intention.
